What is Obstetrics?

Obstetrics is the branch of medicine that focuses on childbirth, pregnancy and the health of pregnant women. An obstetrician specializes in a woman’s reproductive system, pre- and post-natal health, as well as labor, health problems after childbirth, genetics and genetic counseling. Obstetrician is the “OB” in OB/GYN (GYN stands for gynecologist).

While both obstetricians and gynecologists deal with women’s health and there is some overlap, a doctor who specializes in obstetrics differs from a gynecologist in that they are uniquely certified to care for pregnant women, their unborn baby, facilitate labor and delivery, and provide care to newborns immediately following childbirth.

Patient Testimonials

Medical
"I had a very good experience at this office! I had some issues that gave me the end result of needing a hysterectomy. I first saw Dr. Cook, and let me say she is amazing! She made me feel comfortable and explained my situation to me and I felt well informed. Dr. Agrios did my surgery and he is amazing, as well! They show concern and have very good bedside manner. I recommend them to anyone who ask if I know any good doctors."

"The best obgyn ever! I've been going here my whole pregnancy and this is my first. The doctors and nurses make me feel wanted and calm me down when I'm scared. Dr. Agrios is really patient and soft spoken, which keeps me calm. Definitely recommend coming here for first-time moms!"
Medical
"This is the BEST gyn I have every been to. I have been seeing Dr. Cook for the last 4 years and think she is wonderfully compassionate and really takes the time to address any concerns and makes you feel taken care of. Also, most recently, the office staff has been so VERY helpful with helping me get my records sent off, which turned into a big ordeal, but they saved the day and were so wonderful during the whole process.
